Chery TIGGO 7 Sets ASEAN NCAP Record with 94.68-Point Safety Rating
Chery delivered major news about its TIGGO 7 from the Southeast Asian market on December 24. In the latest round of tests conducted by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), the TIGGO 7 earned a five-star safety rating, posting an overall score of 94.68—the highest mark recorded by the assessment program since its 2011 establishment.

The TIGGO 7 scored full marks in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP, 40 points) and Safety Assist (SA, 20 points), making it the first plug-in hybrid to achieve this dual perfect score. Combined with scores of 17.18 in Child Occupant Protection (COP) and 17.50 in Motorcyclist Safety, the model has set new safety standards for Chinese automakers in the Southeast Asian market. This marks the TIGGO 7's fourth five-star rating globally, following recognition from C-NCAP, ANCAP, and Euro NCAP, making it the sole Chinese brand vehicle to hold four five-star safety certifications.

ASEAN NCAP, jointly established by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and the internationally recognized Global NCAP, conducts testing across all 10 ASEAN member states using protocols aligned with international standards. Its assessments cover frontal impact, side impact, occupant protection, pedestrian protection, safety assist, and motorcyclist safety—a dimension unique to the ASEAN region. As such, ASEAN NCAP serves as an important safety reference for consumers when purchasing vehicles in Southeast Asia. As automotive safety standards have improved, the share of five-star rated models has grown from approximately 30 percent to nearly 70 percent. However, the TIGGO 7's achievement of perfect marks in two test modules coupled with a record overall score is unprecedented in ASEAN NCAP's testing history—a clear testament to its exceptional safety performance among its peers.

In AOP testing, the TIGGO 7 demonstrated exceptional passive safety engineering. The vehicle's body structure incorporates more than 61 percent high-strength steel, with hot-formed steel accounting for 9 percent, complemented by front aluminum alloy crash beams. Under severe frontal offset impact and full-width rigid barrier impact tests, the occupant compartment maintained structural integrity while securing maximum protection ratings for critical areas including the head, chest, and limbs.
In SA testing, the L2+ advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) sported on the TIGGO 7 delivered outstanding performance, which comprises 19 functional features across six everyday driving scenarios. Engineered specifically for Southeast Asia's dense motorcycle traffic environment, the system activates Blind Spot Detection (BSD) automatically when vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h. Working in concert with Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), it substantially reduces collision risks associated with lane changes, reversing maneuvers, and door operations—directly addressing the region's distinctive safety challenges.
The TIGGO 7 was honored with the Best in Class Car of ASEAN NCAP 2025, establishing a new safety benchmark for the industry while demonstrating Chery's robust safety capabilities and reinforcing the TIGGO family's strong safety heritage. ASEAN NCAP also presented Chery with the ASEAN Road Safety Pioneer award and the Top Contributor award, recognizing the brand's significant contributions to road safety in the ASEAN region.
The TIGGO 7's ASEAN NCAP five-star safety certification marks a critical milestone, completing the model's top-tier safety recognition across all four major global automotive markets. This achievement brings Chery within reach of a comprehensive global five-star safety sweep while reinforcing its "Global Five-Star Safety" brand positioning. The recognition exemplifies Chery's "In Somewhere, For Somewhere, Be Somewhere" philosophy of global expansion. Going forward, Chery remains dedicated to advancing world-leading safety standards, establishing safety as the foundation of protection for families while making five-star safety universally accessible.
